Bod Pod walk-ins available at AWC

By Lesley Atkinson

Starting Feb. 12, the Army Wellness Center is reinstating walk-in hours for the Bod Pod, the Gold Standard of body composition testing, which will be available for walk-in opportunities every Friday morning 7:30-11:30 a.m. (unless otherwise notified of hourly adjustments via the Fort Lee Army Wellness Center Facebook page). All service members, dependents (over 17 y/o), retirees and DOD civilians are welcome to participate. However, in order to be optimally prepared, please call 804-734-9925 to receive pre-test instructions.
The AWC has two Bod Pods located at 9205 Mahone Avenue, which provide valuable analysis to accurately measure body fat and lean mass changes. The egg shaped device is computerized and utilizes air displacement to calculate body composition.
The two minute test provides a measurement of success regarding individual lifestyle modifications as well as monitoring risk for major diseases, such as diabetes, stroke, obesity, etc. After the test, AWC Health Educators will provide feedback on how one can safely loose or gain body fat in order to reach personal goals or achieve normative values as well as identify and suggest further needed AWC assessments. In recent months, the AWC has witnessed multiple success stories by assessing clients’ tangible numbers from BodPod tests. For example, the top four participants of the BodPod Quarantine Challenge lost over 46 pounds collectively in only three months!
Below are expectations clients will experience regarding a safe walk-in Bod Pod experience at the AWC:
  1. Clients are required to wear a mask in order to enter the building and will be instructed to wash hands upon entry.
  2. In order to follow social distancing guidelines, only 5 clients will be permitted inside the building at one time.
  3. Clients are welcome to wear a SURGICAL MASK in the Bod Pod and still receive accurate testing results; however, all other mask materials must be removed during the two minute Bod Pod assessment.
In addition to providing safe body composition testing, the Fort Lee AWC also offers metabolic testing, fitness assessments, virtual health coaching, and health education classes (in-person and virtual) to assist Fort Lee reach optimal readiness and performance. Please do not hesitate to call 804-734-9925 with any questions or to schedule an appointment.
