Lieutenant Colonel Joanna Bailey hails from South Chesterfield, Virginia. She received her commission to Second Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps as a Distinguished Military Graduate from University of Richmond’s Spider Battalion located in Richmond, Virginia.
She holds a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master of Nursing in Executive Nurse Leadership from Saint Xavier University in Chicago, IL. She is certified as an Ambulatory Care Nurse (AMB-BC) and holds both American Organization for Nursing Leadership certifications in Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) and Certified in Executive Nurse Leadership (CENL).

LTC Bailey deployed to various locations to include Joint Medical Task Force Guantanamo, Guantanamo Bay in 2009; Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2010 and Forward Operating Base Shank in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2013. She supported Operation Allies Welcome at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany in 2021.

LTC Bailey is married to Travis Bailey (Ret. USN) and their children are Clayton (27), Brayton (23), Jayce (16), Isabella (14) and Mason (9).
